Chiswick Post Office reopens after Council Leader and Local MP push for progress
Local residents were left dismayed after the Post Office on Heathfield Terrace suddenly closed without warning in May this year.
With the nearest Post Offices all being out of borough, residents were left completely in the dark about the closure.
Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat joined with Hammersmith and Chiswick MP Andy Slaughter in writing a joint letter demanding an explanation for the closure and a timeline for its reopening.
The pair were both able to secure a meeting in early June, where they demanded updates on when the Post Office would reopen.
Following continued pressure from the Labour MP and Council, the Post Office reopened at 2:30pm on Wednesday 3rd September.
Council Leader, Cllr Shantanu Rajawat commented:
“Many Chiswick residents rely on their local post office, and the closure left them with lots of questions and concerns about the future of the service.
“Together with Andy Slaughter MP, we have been pushing for the reopening of the Post Office at the earliest opportunity.
“I am therefore delighted that the Post Office at Heathfield Terrace will be reopening, which represents a win for the whole community.
“Hounslow Labour has also been pushing for the reopening of a Post Office in Hounslow Town Centre. The Post Office have confirmed that they are in the process of issuing a contract with a new operator, with plans for the new branch layout and timeline to follow.
“I will continue to push for updates, together with the MPs and local Labour Councillors.”
