Hounslow Labour Welcome to Hounslow Borough Labour Party!
Hounslow sports clubs can now apply for a share of £85 million to make improvements to their sports facilities.
Local clubs are being urged to apply for this round of 2026/27 funding, to support improvements like building new changing rooms, pavilions, flood lights and all-weather pitches.
This is part of a £400m uplift to grassroots funding announced by the Labour Government in June last year – to coincide with the UK hosting major sporting events like the Tour de France Femmes Grand Départs 2027 and Euro 2028.
The last round of funding supported 991 multi-sport facilities across the country.
The aim is for at least 50% of the funding to go to the most deprived 30% of the country, as well as encouraging more underserved groups like women and girls to take part in sport.
The funding is also aimed to help clubs offer a range of different sports at these facilities beyond just football.
Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces said:
“This announcement from the Labour Government comes hot on the heels of our Youth Offer Consultation. Our young people were clear. They want new and improved sports facilities, with more offers for women and girls, and a greater diversity of sports.
“We’re making major investments in sport and leisure, with new padel courts in Hanworth and Isleworth and a flagship leisure centre coming to Brentford. But the backbone of sports provision in this borough is provided by grassroots clubs.
“That’s why I am urging local clubs to apply, because the difference these clubs make in their local communities deserves recognition.
“After all, we are the borough that produced Mo Farah. You never know how big a difference these small grants might make.”
This money can help fund:
- New 3G grass pitches enabling year-round play regardless of weather
- Upgraded changing pavilions with more appropriate changing facilities for women and girls
- Floodlighting to extend playing hours into evenings and car parking for better accessibility
- New goalposts, fencing and storage facilities to improve safety and access
- Priority use time slots for women and girls’ teams at funded sites
- Facilities that can host PE and school activities alongside community use
- Sites that support health initiatives and community outreach programmes
