Surinder Purewal for Heston Central
Surinder is standing for re-election in Heston Central where he has lived for the past 15 years. Surinder has been working hard to serve his community for the past fifty years, and in June 2000 he was awarded an MBE for his services. Now retired, Surinder spent 40 years working for the Civil Service, giving him a wealth of valuable knowledge and experience across a range of areas.
Surinder has been the Chair of the Southhall Health Improvement Project for six years, performing duties as a trustee and accountant, and has also served as a school governor, including as Chair of Havelock Primary School Governing Body and Chair of the Finance Committee at Featherstone High School. Before joining the Metropolitan Police Authority, Surinder was a Justice of the Peace for Hounslow Petty Sessions. He also spent eight years as a member of the Independent Monitoring Board for Feltham Young Offenders Institute and Detention Centre. He is a life member and General Secretary of Sri Guru Singh Sabha, the largest Sikh institution outside of India.
As a Councillor Surinder has served as Chair of the Audit Commit, Vice Chair of the Pensions Panel, and been a member of Health and Adult Care Scrutiny Panel, Heston and Cranford Area Form, Licensing Committee, Standards Committee, and School Travel. In these roles he has made improvements to numerous audit and accounting processes, and has vastly improved the Pensions Fund and cover. In addition to holding open meetings and surgeries for residents, Surinder visits ward members in their homes when requested to help ensure swift resolution of any issues or concerns they have.
